Smile Long Island Scottish Games 8/23/08

Greetings to the Rabble! Who will join me at the Long Island Scottish Games? Has some Kilted Elder already organized the XMarks presence, or should we organize in this thread? HooRah!

Several members of the NY Metro rabble have posted their intentions to go, but I don't see that any one has made reference to a meeting.

    Greetings Galician

Greetings Galician. Thank you for the reply. Do you know whether the NY Metro rabble who plan to attend have made any plans for meeting up? In posted accounts of other Highland games, it appears that XMarkers have had an area in which a sign was displayed to facilitate gatherings of members. Have any XMarkers planned to set up a sign, a booth or other means of allowing XMarkers to find each other? Thanks again.

I'll be there (as long as it's not a wash-out), It's my first time as an XMarker so, I don't know the drill, but I'll keep you posted.

Bob and Freelancer, I agree that it'd be a great idea for local X-Markers to meet up. I've organized a few of the meets here in the city (including this year's Burns Dinner). It's a bit of a trip for me out to Westbury, though, so I don't know at this point if I'm going to be able to make it out there.

Those of the rabble who have indicated that they are going are Baysideboy and Keith A. You might want to contact them to see about a meet. If you do work something out, please post here, should anyone (like myself ) show up at the last minute.

I'm definitely planning to go; will probably be on an 8:30-9:00 AM train from the city to be at the games around 10AM.

An on-site meet-up place/time makes sense. How's noon? Place? I don't remember the layout well enough to suggest one other than near the tour entrance to the mansion or at the beer tent?

And this shall be for music, when no one else is near; The fine song for singing, the rare song to hear; That only I remember, that only you admire; Of the broad road that stretches and the roadside fire. (RL Stevenson)

Noon sounds good. I've never been to this event before, so you all know the layout better. I will be there with wife and children, so I should probably suggest the tour entrance to the mansion, if just to ensure "family friendliness"--not that the kids don't see us imbibe. Should I make up an XMarker sign as I have seen others use, or should I just stand in the open and bray Scottish imprecations?

A sign would be great. I know most of the NYC rabble by sight, but there are bound to more Xmarkers than just us...

I'll be there. I live in western nassau county, so it's not too bad a trip at all.

Great! Noon it is for the meet up. I'll make a sign to display prominently with the XMarks logo. I'll also contact the event hosts to let them know who we are and that they don't need to go to orange alert over our sign placement or gathering. Cheers!
