Pete,
I am in a similar situation whereas my knee has been bothering me for a few years snce I broke it.
I decided I would start throwing at HG but I also didnt want to damage anything while having fun.
I know I will not be competitive, but that doesnt mean I can not throw just the same.
I decided to start with the Scottish Hammer, the sheaf and the weight for height, all at 22 pounds to play it safe.
I've been practicing for a couple of weeks now and I can see that my knww can handle it, but practice doesnt compare to an actual event so im not sure about moving to the 56 pounder and the caber yet.
good luck and take it easy on the knee
