USA kilt vs sport kilt

being an owner of 11 kilts now and 3 from Usa kilts that I love last spring I purchased a sport kilt. ( sorry I did ) I must say that the quality and feel of the sport kilt can not come close to comparison to the Usa kilt.Rockey makes a great quality product that is far above the rest I will be back at the shop soon for my next one

I have the exact same opinion. I have one SK, and will never buy another for myself. I can get a vastly superior USAK for $10 more than a Sport Kilt. I was really disapointed with my The Works Sport Kilt and wish I had spent the money a USAK instead. On a brighter note, however, my wife loves her Sport Kilt skirts. They look great on her. I will deffinately be buying more of those for her. And I love my noggin wrap.

I am also the owner of both USA Kilts (Semi Traditional) and Sport Kilts.

My Sport Kilts are great for the field of competition (Caber Toss), and for impromptu rugby matches. The Sport Kilt has the pull to stay in place for the rough activity that athletic endeavor requires.

My USA Kilts are for wear at the pub, around town and to look good in tartan, while still having the ability to clean safely the spills of children, ( I teach kindergarten, and first grade religious education kilted ), and then throw on the vest and argyle to speak at the pulpit in the adult service.

My House of Edgar Scottish Wool kilts are for when the family gets together for celebrations, etc. Usually worn with PC.

The 1922 Tank hand sewn in Scotland for my great-grandfather, and passed down to me is only worn PC for very special family events.

My Freedom Kilt, Stillwater Kilts, Amerikilts, and Utilikilts all serve their purpose here in Boston for running around on the "T", doing the basic errands of life.

We have so many options for being kilted, that we need to be careful of what we expect from what kilt. As Jamie stated they fill very different niches in the kilted world.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; Sport kilts are the sweatpants of kilts.

They aren't particularly fancy, and aren't for every situation, but they do feel good.

My first kilt was a SK and while I don't wear it as often as my alphakilt or even my stillwaters, I am very glad I have it, as nothing beats it on a hot day.

I would have to agree with most here. My first kilt was a Sport Kilt, and it was the bare bones! Thankfully, Seamus agreed to take it back in and make it more kilt like. But I bought it knowing what it was, and what it wasn't. Now having said that, I didn't know about USAK or SWK; wish I had. But my SK will serve a purpose; it will truly be my knock around kilt for hiking with the dogs, working in the pasture, what have you. If I want to look any nicer, I will go to my SWK, or my tank. Yes, the future does hold more SWK and perhaps a USAK or two.

Why do you think that SportKilts are called SportKilts?

Perhaps because they're fantastic for sports! When I'm in the ring in a sportkilt I don't have to worry that I'm falling on it every couple of seconds, rolling around in sweat and blood and spit, and generally abusing it. I know that when I go home, I can toss it in the washing machine along with my pads and my T-shirt and when I pull it out, it'll be ready to go.

If I want a kilt to wear around town, not expecting to roll around in some gutter somewhere, I'd probably wear a USA Kilt. It's a matter of what you're using it for. My next purchase for a casual kilt is going to be a USAK, but I'll probably only ever wear SportKilts in the ring because they fill that function perfectly.

Roses and orchids - which is the more beautiful?

Early on I bought two SportKilts pleated to the "gather." Wore them to hike in occasionally...remote hiking. Then I bought a SportKilt with sewn down pleats. Wore it to go dancing because the only venue was a bar and it was very smoke filled. An easy wash. Then Arizona statutes changed to mandate that bars be smoke free. No need for a special kilt for smoke filled bars.

I bought a USA Kilt. Liked it. Since have acquired 11 USA Kilts Casuals and 11 USA Kilts Semi-traditionals. Sold off some of the casuals to buy more Semi-trads.

Sold off my SportKilts save the Macdonald tartan. Seldom wear it.

Am forever lurking on the USA Kilts website looking for a new tartan or wondering "why not?" on a tartan I've yet to buy.

Two different deals for sure.

I have worn my USAK to the pub and to my mother's last wedding. I wear my Sportkilt around the house. Only. Its my summerwear kiltjama. My winter kiltjama is an old SWK acrylic heavyweight. Yep, they all fill a certain niche. Nice, that.
