It's actually quite nice. I wasn't sure it would be after looking at the ghastly images linked to posts here previously.

Thanks Rex, that helps a lot. I saw that they offer tartan yardage by the eight yard linghth.

Not sure what that Rainbow tartan is like, but I fit more with the bear tartan... Still might be more affordable to get kilt pins though...

I sent them (the Bear Tartan folk) a message asking about the width of the fabric. If it's double-wide, maybe two guys can save a bit by purchasing the required 8-foot length and splitting it for two kilts.

I've kind of come to the conclusion that when I'm ready to get one of these, I'm just going to go with their own kiltmaker. At current conversion rates, one of their kilts is $572. An 8-yard length is $407. Think of it as requesting a custom run of any tartan, and it seems reasonable to have the kilt made for $165. But because of the unknowns involved, I've moved it down on my list of priorities.

Anyway, I think it is woven as double-width. I don't know if that's how they sell it, though. Because it's an asymmetrical tartan, you can't split it and join it without also hemming it, if I remember others' advice on this matter.

I love the look of the Rainbow tartan and hope the Pakistanis start running it off, then we'll be able to see it in a PV at FC or SWK we can ALL afford without breaking the bank. I'll wear it in a heartbeat.

Which Rainbow are you referring to? I like the Canadian fashion tartan ITI #5442. The other two IMO are hard to look at. I also like The Tartan of Pride, which this thread was originally about and got highjacked for bear tartans.

That's a great looking Tartan. The Bear tartan is actually really quite my style. I'm a big hairy gentleman, but don't really "qualify" to wear it, I'm afraid.

Nonetheless both are fine tartans and would look great in any situation, casual or formal.

Actually, no one has described that first tartan to me... What is the main background color or colors? I'm asuming that there are the six rainbow colors worked in there...

Ted, If you go to: http://www.tartansauthority.com/web/...rchintroc2.asp and type in ITI#7682 for The Tartan of Pride and ITI#5442 for Canadian Rainbow. You can also search for the other Rainbow tartans, but I didn't care for them.

Ted, it has the usual Pride Flag colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue (almost cyan), and violet - arranged in order, and then reversing. Unlike the typical Pride Flag, they are not evenly distributed. The red and orange are about the same width, yellow is slightly reduced, green's a little wider, and blue's a little wider than green. Violet is very narrow and slices through the two stripes of blue. Because of the reversing, it gives the appearance of having two main colors, blue and red, with other accents. The unevenness of the distribution makes it a more pleasing tartan than some of the other rainbow versions. The crossing colors mute it just a bit, too, which seems to tone it down just enough.
