I have a kilt from J.Higgins and one from Kathy Lare. As Ron says, my K.L. kilt in Buchanan hunting came without the basting stitches, but no sirens went off, and as a matter of fact, she did such an excellent job of pleating and pressing that you can't even see them in the back in photos. My J. Higgins machine-sewn kilt in MacGregor tartan has always done me well without a let-down. I wear it quite a bit for piping and sometimes for Highland games. You will not be disappointed.

My family tartan tank (Duncan Modern) purchased last year, is also a J. Higgins. I'm extremely pleased with the quality and price. A few months ago, the Celtic Croft had the same tartan in their clearance section - more than enough for a fly plaid. Matched perfectly.

I now have ten hand sewn kilts from her. Not one was ever shipped with basting stitches. Never a problem.

I figure if she doesn't ship with the basting stitches in there's a reason for it. For me, I'd rather have a skilled craftsman pull the stitches than leave them for me. Seems like a little bit of extra service. The short time in transit is unlikely to cause any pleat creases that won't hang out or can't be steamed out. I'm not sure the basting stitches would keep a kilt from getting some wrinkles or creases in transit anyway.

Certainly nothing to worry about either way.

Yeah, brother, I'm with you on this one. Please, PLEASE don't make me pull any threads! I will damage something. That's what I have a mommy for.

Guess as a newly kilted member, I was falsly under the impression that all kilts came with the basting stitches. Boy, I couldn't agree more; Please don't make me pull stitches, with my clumsy hands, I would bugger it up in no time fast. I guess when I get a new SWK, I will have my wife read the threads about pulling them, and let her do it! I'll gladly trade her a nice back massage!
