    Larry,

My grandmother passed away back in 1996. She was proud of our Iowa Scottish heritage, and she passed that along to me. I would give anything to be able to show her my little daugther and how our line continues.

I miss my grandmother very much, as I miss my grandfather on my Dad's side. Both of them were very important people in my life.

I'm sorry if my refering to my grandmother offends you for some reason.

    Todd

Hey Hector, just make sure they aren't Pisco Sours! I have bad memories of those from a night in Santiago!!

Okay, hope that wasn't too much of a hijack!

    Off topic?

I want to add my tuppence worth here too: Respect must be earned, as well as given. I am sure most if not all of the Pakistani craftsmen who turn out the cheap merchandise that so many seem to disparage, could and generally would produce most excellent quality work, if given the proper materials to work with and allowed to take the time. Sweatshops are usually "piece work" type places, where each worker is paid by the number of pieces produced. Along with sub-subsistance wages (even for the local economy) it encourages the production of sub-standard quality. Unfortunately much of our consumer goods are produced that way, and of course sell for less.

Many years back I remember a small manufacturing plant which had this sign posted throughout the plant: "There is nothing that cannot be made more cheaply by cutting corners on quality; and the person who only considers price is this man's lawful prey." Maybe if we all insisted on quality rather than lowest price, it might change things. Now I'll get off my soapbox

    Todd,

I apologize if my intention was not clear.
I meant no slight to regard for or to the memory of older relatives.

I only intended to illustrate that contrary to what I think I see in the majority of quotes here that their wisdom can sometimes favor the purchase of a less rather than a more expensive item.

I, too, would like to add to this growing list of things we would all like to do without for a week...

    ...pants.

    ...that is all.
