    New Officer's Model Sgian Dubh

Hey rabble, got a nice package in the post today. My new Officer's Model sgian dubh just arrived from USA Kilts. Let me say that Rocky was very good to work with, and put up with my several phone calls while the sgian was on back order. The sgian itself is a quality item. The blade has a nice edge to it, although I will put the extra fine waterstone to it, and has a nice celtic knot etched into it. The bottle opener/screw driver and the corkscrew appear to be very useful and sturdy. The sheath is embossed leather, and the clan crest is crisp and well attached. Thought I'd share some photos with you all. BTW the sgian is resting on a pair of Lovet Green hose that I also purchased from USA Kilts at the same time.

Do you find it heavy compared to other sgian dubhs?

They look great but I wonder if they pull your hose down.

    Cheers

Possibly a little heavier, but not uncomfortably so.

I certainly hope it is. I'll let you know after I have a chance to try it out.

    Thanks For The Glowing Review

Hey STANDARD, thanks for the kind words! I designed the Officer Sgian Dubh shortly after severing my relationship with Wilkinson Sword, and they are now made by Gaelic Themes in Glasgow. Unlike other sgians dubh the tang is much thicker and runs the length of the handle-- providing greater strength, albeit at a slight increase in weight. Both the screw driver and bottle opener are functional, and I've uncorked many a bottle of wine with the corkscrew as well.

The sheath supplied with the Officer really is a work of art, but in my opinion it is far thicker than needs be. The sheath on mine is about 1/2 the thickness, and machine sewn around the edge-- this keeps the sgian tighter to my leg, and eliminates slippage under most circumstances.

By the way, the clansman's badges used on the Officer sgians dubh were designed by Romilly Squire, so you really do have quite a piece of art there-- well worth the price.

Anyhow, I'm glad you like it.
    Cheers!

    Great stuff!
