Thanks guys! I just needed to vent, particularly since all the other reactions have been VERY positive.

I have the same situation in my office with one of the higher ups (technically we're on the same line of the org chart but he's been here MUCH longer than me). He thinks he's being funny but I finally told him that if he wants to poke fun at a national symbol of my heritage and upbringing, I'm sure I could make a few dumb Polack jokes at his expense as well (he's of Polish ancestry and quite proud of it).

He never did it again.

Great thread, and glad that you've had mostly positive responses. What building do you work in downtown? And hopefully you don't have to walk far to parking. The wind blowing through the streets can be a pain...if you know what I mean. I don't make it downtown kilted often, but when I do, it's a constant battle to keep private things private.

I teach science at the high school and community college levels. I wear my kilt on Kilt Day and John Muir's birthday (21 April). Lots of questions, but the rule is to wear your kilt proudly and often. I wear my kilt to formal dances and corporate parties - always positive responses. People don't know quite what to expect, but when they see a formal kilt - they ooze nothing but compliments.

I'm going to buy the kilt first, but once I have a khaki casual I'm going to war for the right to wear it at Wal-Mart, where I work. It's not like I work out on the floor or anything, so very few customers would see me. I unload trucks.

But I'm glad that you're wearing it with pride at work, it's always good to have someone out there positively asserting that the kilt is a garmet for day-to-day wear.

I am a paralegal (Certified Legal Assistant), wear a kilt to work several times a week, and work with about 30 other people. The first week or 2, I got a few comments, but since then, nothing. My supervising attorney (female) has never mentioned it, either positive or negative. Once the rest of the staff realized that the kilt was just another form of attire, there was nothing left to talk about. I do wear the kilt with a dress shirt and tie. Last week, we had temperatures in the 90 - 100 degree range and I wore a polo shirt with no tie. That got a few remarks as I seldom do not wear a tie.
