Kilts in the News at Yahoo and Assoc. Press

Many here are familiar with the costly efforts of the postal worker who is striving to win the right to wear the kilt as a part of his uniform. The man has already spent over a thousand dollars on his efforts to convince the powers that be among the postal workers union. On Yahoo's news summary this morning there was a good article that was distributed through Associated Press detailing the current status of postal workers here and in England. Would an international flood of letters to AP sent to the writer's attention be in order to broaden the fight to all countries and reflecting how many businesses are already allowing kilts? Might be interesting if they knew there were thousands around the world and a host of reasons far beyond simply making a fashion statement. It reached 103 here yesterday. With the level of Georgia humidity the kilt is just common sense. Do we have an opportunity to make a statement to the world that the kilt is welcomed and enjoyed by many around the world?

Looks like his story was picked up by the AP wire services and is now on a majority of the 'big' news sites, Yahoo News, Fox News, CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, etc...

Lets hope that all this publicity helps out this guy and we see some kilt related follow-up stories.

I saw Headline News' snippet. The union voted "no." They did have a pic of 5 or 6 carriers in postal blue UKs. The Wife said, "That would be a big, fat contract for them."

The poor reporter will probably just delete them unread. They've moved on to the next story and are trying to meet the deadline for that.

Well, here's wishing him the best of luck for the 2010 convention. Maybe between now and then he can rally more support in the right places, and find some new inspiration to present another angle of the issue to help promote acceptance... I liked his argument that postal workers already have various other pieces of official gear such as pith helmets, cardigans and vests that they may choose from. Maybe if people were only made to realize that the kilt would only be another CHOICE -- not something that everyone would have to switch to or keep in his wardrobe.
