    I do plan on a finding an instructor. I have been talking to one already. The chanter he recommended was almost $200. A pretty pricey penny to swallow if I decide I don't like playing. I was looking to see if there are more affordable options.

    Captain Karrot, at that price I would bet that the one he's suggesting is African blackwood. You are right; that is a pricey way to start.

    A practice chanter is the least of your worries. First try to find a good teacher first that gives private lessons. Group lessons are not very good and you might as well just try to teach yourself.

    You can get a good Polypenco by Dunbar for $70 and a long one for $95. Just google what you want and you'll find it.
