Sad one day, happy the next day

Two days ago, I was running errands and decided to check the local thrift shop for any jackets that could be converted to a kilt jacket. What to my delight do I find, but a jacket with this label on the inside.

I tried it on, but it was a little large, but no problem. My lovely wife is a wonderful seamstress and tailor. A conversion would be a simple job for her. I looked the jacket over and saw some holes in the bottom it. again no problem, that would be cut off anyway. Additional inspection found additional holes across the back of the shoulder area, NOT good -- moth larvae. Very discouraged at this point, NO sale!

Continued to look around, but nothing else to be found for a kilt jacket. I did find a nice overcoat, but decided to talk it over with my wife before the purchase.

Yesterday I went back to the thrift shop to purchase the overcoat. I had to walk past the rack with the holey jacket on it and saw this jacket that I thought would make a nice kilt jacket to go with a kilt made of the Xmarks tartan.

It was a little tight across the middle, but being well trained by my lovely wife, I checked the inside seams and low and behold, three seams with almost an inch of extra fabric in each seam. I checked with my wife (cell phoned can be good) and she said that would be enough fabric to make it fit.

I continued to check the rack and found two more that could work.

Both are a little large, but can be cut down to fit with no problem.

I bought all three! Spent $14.97

I had to go back later to buy the overcoat because I was so delighted, I forgot to get it.

By the way, did I say that each jacket had this label on the inside?

Today at lunch, I checked another thrift store found two more, but they were much too small. I almost bought them to list them on the Swap page.

Great find. Those will certainly give you a good range of choices to wear when the alterations are complete.

Great finds. We have a goodwill nearby and I keep looking for some Harris Tweed. I have found a few but I need a 44 extra long. I have been using ebay for most of my buys because of my XL requirments.

    Good luck on the conversions.

I'm with Chattan Cat. I too need XLong (not extra large) but in a 46 (I actually measure 45") So far no luck. If I were only 5'10" or so, there would be no problem, sigh. Still I can rejoice in the good fortunes of others!

Yeah, lucky for some. Those really are beautiful jackets and will go wonderfully with almost any Kilts. Especially the first one!

Now if only I could find a few in 36 Extra short with super short arms.
