It's split pretty even around here, as far as people that speak up.

Obviously you get a lot of stares and laughs and adolescent females snapping cameraphone pictures, but when someone comes out and says something it's usually pretty positive. The most common question is "what tartan is that" or something to that effect. I usually get into a conversation about it with cashiers at stores and fast food places.

My favorite comment was when I was wearing my SK Braveheart in the lobby of my wrestling arena, and a fan, a man in his thirties or so, asked me if it was an Irish kilt. Assuming he knew a bit more about kilts than your average person (as most don't know there ARE Irish kilts), I replied to the contrary, joking that since I was Scottish it was technically a Scottish kilt.

At this, his face scrunched up and he got a very confused look on his face as he replied, "I thought Scottish kilts were red?"

I always say, you can't be in a foul mood and wear a kilt about town. Too many people with too many comment/questions. Here's a few of my favorite personal Q&A sessions:

Answer: "Boots and socks...just boots and socks ma'am" (We KNOW what the questions is ;-) )

Question: "So...ummm...like, you umm like pick up and throw trees or something , right?"
Answer: (Fold arms across chest and stare directly into their eyes) "Yes...yes I do"

Question to my wife: "So you LIKE him in that?"
Her Answer: "Abso-freaking-lutely" (usually with a little tug up from the bottom near the kilt pin)

Question: (Insert any inquiry about ethnic heritage and assumptions that go with it)
Answer: "Scottish, Irish and Sicilian...would you like to start dinking, or should we just begin the bar fight now?"

    Question: "How do I... "
Answer: "Welcome to the addiction Brother...Stillwater, Sportkilt, Scotweb, Utilikilt, OMG NEWSOME! Let me tell you about my yearly trips to Frankiln North Carolina...here, let me buy ya a beer"

Well I'm a newbie, like a REAL newbie... as in I won't even have my first kilt till (hopefully) tomorrow. So I'm not sure yet how kilt-friendly this particular town will be. I'm originally from Seattle (and lived about a year in Bellingham as a matter of fact), but at the moment I'm living in Birmingham, Alabama. There are others from The South on this board and I've seen them comment on how it's not as bad hereabouts as I'd have thought for the kilted male, but we shall see.
