Thank you Dundee, I now believe I can actually wear it with nobody saying it looks wrong.
Now I am in the middle of doing a home made sporran out of an old leather coat using a pattern of the "Rob Roy", which I found in another thread somewhere, so you might find this in the DIY area soon.

Nice job. I like the smaller sporran better, but that's just me.
Keep it up!

Alwyn!
Really nice. Do you have any pics on what you have as a starting point for your sporrans?

Very nice work, I'm with Alan here I prefer the smaller sporran, however both would do, BTW I fixed your photo coding, you don't need the [url] code. Heree is a shot of the code you want to copy from Photobucket.

Looks Grrrreat! I would pick the smaller of the two sporrans, but that is just my taste. You've done yerself proud!

Thanks McMurdo, I shall remember that for any future posts I do.
The 2 'sporrons' in the photo are actually purses I got from a local Op Shop. I bought them mainly for the shape and to get some opinion on the best one. I think now I will use the smaller of the 2 as a pattern, and, along with the pattern I downloaded for a 'Rob Roy', I should end up with an acceptable sporran. The leather I am going to use is from and old leather jacket I have had in the wardrobe for years and never wear it now. I believe it is English deer hide, quite soft and is black. I may use parts of the smaller purse to stiffen the leather on the inside, but outward appearance would be the deer hide only, including some handmade tassles from the same hide.

The Spooran
At last I have sort of finished my spooran, the only thing left to do is attach the rings to the back so I can hook it to my belt. Anyway, here are the pics for you all to digest and pass your thoughts on to me (not bad ones I hope).
[IMG] [/IMG]
This is the label from the jacket I dismantled to make the spooran. I believe it to be a very nice deer hide.
[IMG] [/IMG]
Here is a section of the coat.
[IMG] [/IMG]
This is the front part which is cow hide for the strength. I used cow hide as a backing for the front and back because the deer hide is so soft and thin, it needed something to strengthen it and give it more body.
[IMG] [/IMG]
This is the back section and flap with the deer hide attached, ready for trimming.
[IMG] [/IMG]
This is it, my final creation.
[IMG] [/IMG]
The flap is open here and you can see the cow hide inside, along with the Magnetic clasp.
[IMG] [/IMG]
This is a closeup of the tassles I made from the same deer hide and the same leather I used for the lacing, which came from a laced belt I got for $2 at the local Op-Shop.
[IMG] [/IMG]
This is the Celtic Trinity Knot on the front. I carved it out of a piece of leather after I traced the outline from a printout off the web. It actually worked out good. It is glued to the front of the spooran.
I know this is not how a traditional spooran is made, but I have had 4 days of great pleasure and enjoyment in making it, and I now love the feeling of working with both old and new leathers. Alwyn

Well done! I like those DIY projects, where you have to find some work-arounds (like buying some other cheap products or use recycled ones; belt...) and use them in different way.

That is a very sharp looking sporran.
The kilt came out great too.
I say wear it with pride, it looks very nice.
