It sounds as though time is short, so hiring is your only real option. Sadly, the choice of tartans are usually limited, rest assured, by hiring the kilt, you will be only doing what most Scots do when a wedding arrives on the scene. Properly "cut" trews are very elegant by the way.

Sorry all I should have said August 2009.

what I meant buy time being short was that I drive to Edinburgh in the morning to look for a kilt maker...

I know my tartan "Robertson". However I am not sure if it would be right me wearing Trews at her wedding or if only a Kilt is the right dress to wear for such an occasion.

Who said it would be inappropriate? I must admit that I'm somewhat out of my element in saying what is or isn't acceptable as wedding attire in Scotland (I'm assuming?). Still, you are the father of the bride-if your daughter wants you in trews, then who cares what others think? It's her day after all. If she would prefer a kilt, then you have an excellent excuse to pick up a lovely and versatile garment!

I'd check with the lady in question. OTH it is an excellent excuse to get a quality kilt, just in case you need one.
