About a year ago, I sat down and outlined just such a book, dealing with just contemporary kilts. I stopped after realizing that it was just going to be a short article really, and then several chapters dealing with the history of most contemporary kilt makers. Probably would have been 20-25 pages tops, so I gave up.

Quite true. That's good idea.
But wouldn't it have to be edited over the ages as styles change?

That's part of what would make the photo book so appealing. It would be a fashion and culture book. It wouldn't 'steal' from the museum's book, since it doesn't have the same audience or intentions. Heck, it may even spark people's interest into knowing more about kilts, at that point they could refer to the museum's book for more substantial information.
