there are more than just So. MD and AACo festivals

    hiya.
thanks for posting that updated link!
i'm a newbie here but not to the scottish festivals in md. here is a link to a site that posts them from all over:
    http://www.asgf.org/9.html
i've been to So. MD but it's been many years. that one is usually 3rd or 4th weekend in april. the second saturday in May (day before mother's day) is the Frederick Scottish Festival at the Urbanna <sp> fire dept. grounds. that one is fun. then the following saturday (usually same day as Preakness) there's FAIR HILL.....Colonial Highland Gathering, in Fair Hill, MD, although there may be some confusion on the location b/c it lists the contacts and address as Newark, DE but it does take place in cecil county, md. been to that one a number of times.....the massing of the bands is great at this one.
then in june is McHenry....never been. sept the Md Renn Faire/Fest has a scottish/celtic weekend. been to that a few times. rather expensive (both admission and wares) and more commercial than authentic.
october brings one in snow hill (never been so no critique) and Anne Arundel. i LOVE the anne arundel games. love the layout of the clan tents, the games on the athletic field, the animals in the barn area, the foods and vendors. love it all. BUT if it's been a heavy rain w/in a day or 2 prior, better bring 4WD vehicle. the parking can be/get quite muddy.
at this one, we usually take our cooler w/our favorite brews (and some H2O), our chairs-in-a-bag, sunglasses (you'll need them if it's a sunny day) and a blanket for the ground if we are on a hill. i usually just set it all up at our clan tent. (Clan Lindsay). if i'm feeling flush (with $$$), i'll also take some Macallan's 12 y/o w/us.
i hope you get there and enjoy the day! stop by clan lindsay!

Thanks for the review of Anne Arundel and the other Maryland events. AS for Anne Arundel - I'll be there - fiddling in Novice Competition, and will definately stop by the Lindsay Tent for a hello! MacAllen is my fave, and I never drink less than 12 year old Scotch! I'll try to squirrel some away for after the competetion (if it is not too hot) else all I want is H20

    Cheers!

Thanks to everyone for posting about other events in MD. Most of them are not local if you live in one of the three Southern MD counties, though. Strictly speaking, there's really only the So MD Celtic Festival. Anne Arundel County is adjoining, however, and as others have pointed out that has the Irish and Scottish weekends at the RennFest as well as just the Scottish Festival.

I am still hoping to make the RennFest this year, but we are trying to synchronise with some friends, and we are not sure yet when they are going.

If it comes to that, Alexandria VA is also close to Southern MD, and I know they have a parade for St. Andrew's Day. I believe there is more than one St. Patrick's Day parade in the area as well.

Frederick and Garret County are a long way from here, though. Too far to get me to go there.
