Not modern, but not great kilt? What's it called? (Albannach's kilts)

The Scottish band Albannach wears a style that I forgot the name of, and can't find anywhere else, thought you lads might know? Or perhaps it is the great kilt and it's just they manner in which they are wearing it.

if you can't find a picture otherwise. If that link will work.

    Thanks

    Sabaidiche,

I changed your title to include Albannach's name to see if that would help get a quicker/clearer answer for you. I hope you don't mind.

    Cheers

Those are great kilts. What they did is let the extra yardage hang down behind them. If you look up video on youTube, you'll notice it swinging behind them when they move. They simply don't have it pinned up.

If you notice, though, they wear their belts on the outside of the folded over pleats. I'm thinking the kilts are styled to look like GKs but are really sewn to hold the pleats that way. I've looked at them twice now in person at Grandfather Mt.

There is a way that the great kilt is wrapped so that the belt sits that way. It actually involves 2 belts- one underneath, and one over top. I don't use myself- it's not especially comfortable- but this guy http://www.renscots.org/clan.html does. It looks exactly like the kilts that the Alba guys wear. I don't know that it's exactly the same, but it sure looks like it to my eye. (Just my 2 cents worth- take it for that.)

    That's a great kilt.

When I wear one in the Summer, I let it hang down the back like that. During colder times I bring both ends up over my shoulders and pin the ends together in the center. If it is raining, I leave enough to form a hood to fit over my head.

They're great kilts. They look kinda funny (to me), but they're great kilts.
