Run in with Toronto's finest
Made a whirlwind trip to Toronto, ON this past weekend for this year's installment of a Red Sox pilgrimage myself and some friends make. We hit a different city every year to watch a game. But I digress....
Went to the Saturday game kilted, and as I'm not familiar with Toronto's rules on fixed blades, I left the sgian dubh state-side and had my sgian don't tucked neatly in my hose. While waiting in line to get in to the Rogers Centre, a member of the Toronto PD tapped me on the shoulder, pulled me aside out of earshot of everyone else in line and politely asked:
"How long's the blade you got in your sock there son?"
I pulled out the sgian don't and replied with a smile: "Actually sir, it's a bottle opener."
He laughed, said "thanks, enjoy the game."
Personally I was impressed he knew what to look for.
As a side note, it was my first trip to Toronto, and I must say I am impressed. City was easy to get around in, and the people were exceedingly nice.

I lived in TO for about 30 years and yeah the people are real nice. Very considerate. Ottawa even more so. Glad your experience was a good one.

My rule of thumb is no blades in airports, stadiums, and highschools. This could be a new thread. "where not to wear a blade"

Actually, I had an older security guard (probably ex-cop) at US Cell Field pass me through and then call me back to ask if I had "one a doze knifes in yer sock". I showed the side of my sock and told him that I never wore one around town...asking for trouble. He laughed and told me that I was probably right.

That's a great story. I don't wear my sgian dubh to church. I probably should get a sgian don't or one of Rab Gordons Sgian Brews (same thing)

Your thread title got me! I'm glad to hear your experience was a good one. They call it "Toronto the Good" for a reason!

Great story. I also found Toronto a very friendly place when I was there in early July.
