gathering information before ordering my 7 year old son his first kilt. While I know he'll use it for other occasions, he'll be dressed as a "Scottish lad" for his schools Christmas pageant (long story!)
So he needs a kilt, shirt, sporran, hose, and probably a hat--maybe a Glengarry? I've garnered alot of info from older posts on buying kilts for the young ones.
Any further advice is appreciated.

As for tartans--he of course wants Black Watch. I'd like to see him in one of my family's--Campbell, McDonald, being the more common--McRae is his middle name. McGillivray--not even sure if there's a tartan for that name...

I would suggest taking a look at Stillwater kilts they have some of the stuff you're looking for at a good price.

I agree with McMurdo. Children will outgrow a kilt quickly. Stillwater is a great place for kilts and accessories at great prices. The good thing about hemming a kilt is that you can let the hem out as the child grows.

Thanks! I just emailed Stillwater to see if they'll get his size in in Black Watch soon. They only have smalls right now.
I've looked at so many of these sites in the last couple of days--seems like I can get everything I need at some--but then they are pricier. The places with the cleaper kilts are not so much one-stop-shopping. Oh well, I'm having fun at least.

If you've got until Xmas you probably have a good shot of it coming back into stock at Stillwater, otherwise your next best option is a Sportkilt. Happy hunting.

First of all from the Cape Fear Valley NC. You already have the advice I would have given. If you cannot find a Balmoral in his size, they are fairly easy to construct, basically a circle, a "donut" and a headband.

I actually have a "cart" loaded at Sport Kilt. It is just a little on the $$ side. But I'm willing to bet he could wear the sport kilt for several years so maybe it is worth it.
