Very normal... Rob Roy's mother was a Campbell. Campbell's were/are very numerous.. and are not the bad guys like everyone likes to make them out to be. If folks were to make a closer examination of history, they would realize that key persons were the bad guys, the [P.T.B. (Powers That Be)].
There were MacDonald's who were Hanover's and there were Campbell's who were Jacobite's. There were Highlanders who were Hanover's and there were Lowlander's who were Jacobite's.

On my Father's side, the family has been traced to Eastern Shore MD in 1688-89. Lots of Celtic lasses were married in the ensuing generations, Ross, Leslie, Doherty, O'Shannonhan, to name the ones that came to mind. On my Mother's side; She was born in Tobermory, Mull in 1900, her Mother was second generation French, but her Paternal Grandmother was a Boyd, as was my Mother's Father's Mother. (Confused? if not why not, I am! She (my Mother) is the reason I took the MacLaine of Lochbuie tartan. Ain't it a hoot? Even if you run into a blank, keep trying. Sometimes it is due to the misreading of a name. Old script can be confusing. Elijah looks a lot like Elisha, for instance.
