My family from the mid-1700's are from Aberdeenshire and Kincardineshire. (Some of them still live there but my branch moved a bit further down.)
However, there are none of those names in my line.
My wife has some Bells in her line but they were from the borders.

The surnames I am most actively researching are:
DANIEL/O'DANIEL, WILLIAMS, BARLOW, JONES, HENDRICKS, CALLAWAY, HODGES, GILMORE, MATHIS, BOYER, HITCHCOCK, LARK, BLAKELY, THOMAS, ROBERTS, GRIGSBY, BUTLER, MASON, WYCHE or WYCKE, LEWIS, HALL, HUNT, BATES, BELL, TUCKER, WYNNE, JEFFERSON (yes, those Jeffersons), BRANCH, BOND, PEARSON, RAIFORD, FAIRCHILD, PORCHER, MILLER, WOOD, BARKER, BRUTON, BREWTON, FONTAINE, JOHNSON, GOULD, ARNOLD, RANDLE, LITTLE, COLSON, FORD, HUGHES, DUGGAN, SMITHWICK, HYMAN, BANKSTON, BRUCE, BENNETT, MONTAGUE, ALLEN, SANDERS, PIERCE, BALDRIDGE, COOKE, LANCELOT, GRAY, MOORMAN, ALLERTON, COPPIN, POYTHRESS, ROBISON, DAVIS, MILLER, WOOD, BARKER, SHAFF/SHOFICH. Almost all Southern US, generally 1600-1700's VA, MD & NC>1700-1800's SC & GA>1800's AL & MS.
I had a great-great-great-great grandmother, Lucretia Bell (1757 or 1749-1822 or 1823) who descends from my earliest known Bell ancestor, Richard Bell, born circa 1642, James City, Virginia. I don't know where his ancestors came from.

The surnames I'm focusing on at the moment are (mainly the first four):
GRIFFITH
MOORE (both parents' sides, actually)
GRANT
McNEILL
WHITIS/WHITEHURST
HAWKER/HACKER (my German line, they changed to Hacker, but I'm not 100% sure the original was Hawker... the wife's maiden name is Vierk/Vierek or something like that)
HOLDERFIELD/HOLYFIELD (various spellings of the latter)

So, I think I have blood lines to the following clans:
Norman - Sutherland Clan
Johnson - The Jonesing Clan
Harvey - Keith Clan
Scott - Scott Clan
Bell - MacMillan Clan
Johnson - MacDonald Clan?
McNany - ??
Any help would be great. McNany doesn't seem to be listed anywhere but it is a Mc. Any suggestions?

I'm more intrigued by the photo. Any idea when it was taken? Also, what exactly is he wearing? A Great Kilt or a plaid? What are those medals? And why a feather like that???
Was all that standard dress for that period?

I'm not sure when William had the picture taken. He was born in Perth 1827, died in Philadelphia 1910. I would guess that he was about 20 in the picture so maybe ~1847.
I would guess that it is not a great kilt but a kilt with a piper's fly.
