Actually, I've seen goth garb pulled off well at Highland festivals. Drop the hem on her dress by at least four inches and loose those hideous fish net spidery looking hose and she could easily pull it off. She just went a little too far and looks more like fancy dress for Halloween.

I can see more than a couple of don'ts with the chap (cut in half) on the left of the picture, above.
