I would like to pose a Question

I am new to the board and BTW, i cant say how much i have learned just from reading the 54 pages of DIY items!!!! you all are an incredible lot.

    Now for the question.

how many of the fine kilted folk here are of Scottish descent, are native Scots, or are from USA , Canada, and other countries around the world.

I am American with a sliver of unprovable Scottish ancestry. and i wear kilts around wherever and whenever i want to. of the 3 that i own 2 are UK and one is a Black watch kilt i bought in Edinburgh. I mostly wear my 2 UK's and save the tartan kilt for ren fairs and costuming and such, not that i dont want to wear it out more often, i just catch a bit of grief from my wife, seeing as i am not Scottish.

ok enough Rambling. I am glad to be here and await your interesting replys

    I'm from California.

My paternal grandfathers line is French Canadian since, like, forever...literally since the early 1600's.
My paternal grandmothers line has been in the USA since well before the Revolutionary War. Back around 1740, though, someone named "Bryson" who was descended from someone who family lore says might have been Scottish, emigrated to the colonies.

there's one Scottish "connection". It's about 1/512th part of my genetic makeup.

My maternal grandfathers side is 100% Swedish

My maternal grandmothers side has, with very few exceptions, been in the USA since before the Revolutionary War, but it's pretty well documented that Martha McKnight was a daughter of John McKnight, whose father, another John McKnight, emigrated from Ulster in about 1730. McKnight is the anglicization of "MacNacht", and the northern counties of Ireland are loaded with McKnights and MacNaughtons so there's another 1/512th part of my makeup that's Scottish.

I['m a northern european mutt who's ancestry has actually been in North America for hundreds of years.

But I still wear kilts because I LIKE them, and I identify with my miniscule Scottish background more than anything else.

    Welcome Aboard,

Like Alan, I am a Northern European Mutt. The most recent infusion being Swedish, but with liberal doses of German, English and a bit of Irish for "luck". And also, like Alan, I wear the kilt because I want to.

    Haha, clever.

I'm a quarter Scottish, quarter Irish, and half German (my mom is 100%).
