I would like to pose a Question

I would only buy "modern" kilts (two Utilikilts) for a while because I have no Scottish connection, but I figured what the heck, and purchased my first traditional style kilt and sporran. Wear what makes you happy.

I am from Canada, however both parents were born in Scotland, Mom in Coatbridge and Dad in Aberdeen. I still have Aunt, Uncles and cousins over there.

Both of my paternal grandparents were from Scotland. They came to this country, separately and unaware of each other, 100 years ago this year. I never met them, sadly. They passed before my parents met.

this is just the response that i expected.. not the answers per say but the quick replies. Good well as soon as i make my sporran, find some one to help mod a jacket, and decide if wing tip shoes are a good sub for ghillie's , ooh ya and make some flashes, i am going to march out in my Black Watch to the next even that i can!!!!!

I think that what you want is a belted plaid.

I am sure that I have seen a description and photo somewhere on X Marks recently - but it is gone midnight here and I can't think of who or where - maybe someone more awake can point you in the right direction.

Great Grandparents on my Mother's side were from Pitlochry area(Robertsons) who came to the US in the mid-1800's. Also on my mother's side, several greats back were other grandparents from Scotland/Ireland-Mathiesons who came to America in the early 1700's. On my Father's side I have Scottish-Stewart, Irish-Miller and my Granny, his Mother, was 1/2 Cherokee-Morphis.

By the by, I just like looking at men in kilts!

Welcome from Vancouver, Canada, and Inverness, Scotland. I was born in Canada of Scots parents, was educated in Scotland and lived there for nearly half my adult life (with five years in Eire). I now live about half the year in each of Scotland and Canada. I have dual citizenship.

Matt Newsome is probably the best one to answer your question, but suffice it to say that you never see the plaid (pronounced "plade") in Scotland today, except as worn by bandsmen in some military and quasi-military pipe bands.
