Hi all I was thinking about making my own Sgian, could anyone give me a list of the material I will need. Also any links were I could find them?

Check out ebay for "knife blanks", aka pieces of wood that are already close to the right size for a handle. This way you won't have to spend hours removing excess material.

Caulfield Leather has good prices on quality blades.

It's loads of fun. Be careful though....it gets addictive!

I've purchased from Track of the Wolf over the years for Revolutionary War are re-ennacting supplies, and never been disappointed. Might have to look into some DIY project stuff from them in the new future....

Just have to get a knife blank and I've been out hunting for a decent shed antler.

Thanks everyone what would be the right size for a sgian hande?
I was thinking about going with Buffalo Horn, with a Traditional Steel Sgian Dubh Blade.
Also should I get a knife blank with two piece or just one? wonder if I could make the knife with horn like the last link?

Try http://www.atlantacutlery.com/atlantacutlery/ as they have blanks for Sgian Dubh's as well as Dirks and knife making accessories... Have fun my son and I made one for him years ago from scratch using an old knife blade but the result was worth it and it never fails to get compliments.
