I think it is really down to the cut of the kilt. All of my kilts are shaped across the back, rather than hanging straight down. When I sit, for example at dinner, with my posterior well back in the chair, there is no problem.

I suspect problems may be a combination of a fleshy backside (and tummy) combined with a kilt which isn't as well tailored as it should be.
That would be my guess too. I find if I do a decent "sweep", then things are OK. I'll give the "slouch & lean back" a try next time. But then, I am, like one of my sons, "a buttless wonder". (A quote from a most disrespectful daughter!)
