One Heck Of A Fire Night, or, A New Kilt For Hamish!
Yesterday was the induction of names to the International Association of Firefighter Memorial. 137 brave men fell last year in the line of duty, and their names were placed on the wall. I haven't heard the numbers yet, but there were hundreds of firefighters in town, and they all went to our pub last night! The police closed off the street in front of the pub, and the pipe and drum bands were performing right there. It was something else!
Cudos to Colorado Springs, Seattle, Sacremento, Boston, Toronto, and all of the other bands for a phenomenal performance! We particularily liked Seattle; those guys know how to play to an audience. Kilts were everywhere, and I was glad I wore mine last night. The tartans represented wereFirefighter, MacLeod, Farquarson, and a few others. I would love to know who made Toronto's kilts; they were obviously exceptionally well made kilts. But they got away before I could ask them.
While we were watching the bands play, we saw a band in a tartan we had never seen before. They were wearing kilts made of pbi matrix fire suit material, with a reflective stripe down each side! If I recall, the band was from Cleveland, Ohio. I immediately thought of Hamish and his Hi-Viz kilt. Figure if I do get to volunteer with my local district next year, I'm gonna have to get that one!
On a stupid note, the wife and I were running behind, and left the darned camera at the house! Have to see if I can get pics from someone else to post.

Sounds like a great gig. Is there by chance a website?
Any guys in Hawaiian shirts would probably be from the Phoenix Fire Dept.

Didn't see any Hawaiian shirts, Ron. The website doesn't have video on it yet. Local news said more than 5000 from around the country and Canada asceneded on our fair city. On Thur, they took the trip up to the top of Pike's Peak, and loved it. Though the poor fellas from New York had a hard time breathing!
No one has posted any videos yet on Youtube, but I will watch for it and link. I'm sure they are all still recovering from last night!

Sorry, Nighthawk. I knew about the memorial, but with the work schedule I had this past week, I didn't find out about the playing last night. The IAFF website could have done a much better job of advertising what all was happening. But, guaranteed that they will do it again next year down here. This was the 22nd memorial.
