IMHO Its more about what you can afford vs the likely hood that it will get torn, ripped, stained with motor oil etc. When I mowing the lawn, working on the truck, building a deck, I wear my UK workman. When I go out with the better half, she expects something a lot nicer. I personally can not afford to replace a $600+ kilt on a whim. I wear the kilt most appropriate for what I'm doing. A traditional wool kilt while wrenching on the truck is something I wouldn't do.
