Major-General BM Hoffmeister, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada
(I've posted this here because this site doesn't have a 'beer tent' and I can't think where to put it)
Help Elect Major-General Bert Hoffmeister as the Most Influential British Columbian!
Gentlemen:
I once had the priviledge to attend a lecture on Armoured Warfare given by FeldMarshal Heinz Guderian - the man who Rommel looked up to!
After the lecture, the Herr FeldMarshal came over to me and, pointing to my Seaforth cap-badge said; "And how is Major General Hoffmeister?"
Fortunately I had been 'Hoffy's' Aide-de Camp a short while before and thus could stammer something halfway coherent.
Herr Guderian told me that General Hoffmeister was the most capable commander produced by any of the Allied Forces during World War Two, and the ONLY allied officer that would have risen to the rank of Major-General in the Wehrmacht!
The Vancouver Sun is holding a contest to select the most influential BC resident. Go to this page (http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/f...=&CPIorderBy=&) to vote for MGen Hoffmeister.
Click on ‘click here to submit your choice’ and submit Bertram Hoffmeister. (it's a fairly goofy protocol - you have to enter a submission as though you're the first person to think of it as opposed to 'voting' - which might explain why Marc Emery is in the lead...)
Pass it on – Bert never got as much credit as was due him!

(4th generation Seaforth, served 1974-1999)
