    Even my 6 year old daughter wears a black watch. And she's never been in the military. Not yet.

    Definately an open tartan as far as I understand. I'm not scottish either but there are still a lot of choices out there.

    Yes, the Blackwatch is accepted as being a "universal" tartan that anyone can wear. I personally don't have first hand knowledge of the thrifty as compared to the standard, but I'd opt for the heavier weight version to get a better hang. When you decide to go with another tartan you could look at a nice wool in 14oz or so. Good luck.
