The best casual sporrans around - Freelanders

I know David and Sten Rune won't toot their own horn (they've likely cut it and polished it for use on another sporran), but I just noticed that David's gallery now has a bunch of pictures of some of their past creations in it. Have a look, there are some really beautiful sporrans in there (mine's number 22 I believe).

If you have never seen or held on of these sporrans you are really missing something. Not only are they built like a tank, but they are made with the finest leather, horn, bone, etc. Freelander was the one of the first companies offering sporrans in this style and their reputation and growth seemed to grow and build along side Xmarks. David and Sten seem to only do this for fun and a bit of a hobby, but they put as much if not more care and attention into their sporrans than most professional sellers.

If you want a great casual sporran for use in almost any situation, I would highly recommend looking into a Freelander. David, I thank you and Sten for such a great sporran. I use it more than any of my others and it means more coming from a mate and fellow Xmarks member.

I have had my Freelander (#57) for a couple of years now and this brown and black beauty has been my favorite sporran since I took it out of its box.

The only sporran I have that is the equal in construction and good looks to David and Sten's work is my Fergusson Brit sporran* (and my Freelander holds a lot more)

I have 9 sporrans and I heartily recommend to anyone looking for a handsome and extremely well made sporran to seriously check out David's work.

David and Sten don't toot their own horns on XMTS and only make a few sporrans each month. But anyone who has one will vouch for the quality and simple beauty of their products.

See, I only had the standard black leather sporrans, you see everywhere, and one from Celtic empire before I got my Freelander. Going from those sporrans to a Freelander was like getting out of a Volkswagen beetle and into a Hummer. I gave my son the Celtic Empire one and can't remember the last time I used the black sporran.

Sporrans are just about as addictive as kilts, I have several, at last count I was at 9 myself, of all of these for casual wear the Freelander sees more use it is a simple yet elegant design that works with so many outfits. If you're looking for a quality sporran that will last and carry everything you need look no further than Freelander Sporrans. Thanks again David and Sten for the best all around sporran in my wardrobe.

This is a simple basketweave (and the one I got). donnie does some really stunning celtic knots and other designs as well.

I believe the basic design can be found in Thompson's book "So you are going to wear the kilt" . David (Freelander Sporrano) and Sten (Sten Sporrano) took that basic plan and developed the Freelander Sporran.

Since then a lot of people and companies have tried their hand at making this type of sporran.

I have seen some of the others and it has just made me appreciate my Freelander Sporran all the more.

I think that Colin wanted a thread about the wonderful product that David and Sten make. I think it might be respectful to him to keep this thread just about Freelander Sporrans.

Colin, I couldn't agree more about these sporrans.

I've got a Buzz Kidder and a Stillwater Nightstalker. Both fine and functional sporrans, but my Freelander is by far and away my favorite.

These are just the Freelanders that I have in the shop currently.

I own two of my own. One Black and one Brown.

I love them so much that I asked David if I could carry them in my shop and hopefully save some shipping for his N. American fans.
