As an historic re-enactor, I will probably wear my Ren garb including Great Kilt. However, I would not wear my trad kilt as a costume or as part of one.

I do have to admit though that last Halloween I wore a kilt, just because I wanted to be comfortable, and it just distracted from the costume (it was a t-shirt and something I carried - a make-you-think kinda thing), people didn't get it because they focused on the kilt...

You could wear a kilt as PART of a costume just as you could any other article of clothing. For instance, if a person normally wears jeans as daily wear, he could make them part of a cowboy or biker costume easily.

Now, just because many people think that a kilt is a costume anyway, I wouldn't go as a "Scotsman" or anything like that. Instead, I would go for a historical type costume or something like Ron has done.

    I'm doing the same.

I have reproduced this picture using MacKenzie weathered (I don't like Buchannan). I haven't got the baldric or shoes yet, and my doublet is being made. So this is (more or less) how I'm going.
