As most of you know, the Luminous Joan plays in the Redwood Symphony.

I *used* to play in this illustrious outfit, and they do still sometimes all me in for a saxophone part, or e-flat clarinet or some random thing. At any rate the Halloween/family/in-costume concert is coming up on Saturday, October 25th at Canada College, off of Highway 280 in Redwood City.

The concert is short-ish for those of you who are classical-music-phobes. Here's the program:

Lemony Snicket: The Composer is Dead (not ACTUALLY written by Lemony Snicket)
Dukas: The Sorcerer's Apprentice ... think: Walt Disney's "Fantasia"
Saint-Saëns: Danse Macabre
Elfman: Theme from The Simpsons ...that's right, the theme music from the TV show, written by the former lead guitarist of Oingo Boingo, and winner of something like 30+ Grammy awards

the program starts with an orchestra tour, where kids and parents visit with the different sections...woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion... and learn about the instruments. Then there's a break for cookies and stuff, and then the music starts. This is a great program for kids; there will be MOBS of them from about age five to late Jr. High. Wearing of costumes by adults and kids is encouraged, I know Joan is stressing over hers, already. Last year we had Jedi Masters in the Trombone section, Princess Leia in the flute section, a vampire in the second violins, Captain Kirk of the Starship Enterprise in the oboes, and a clown on the podium.

Matter of fact, we USUALLY have a clown on the podium, but never mind that.....

I will be there, probably ushering or who-knows-what, and X-Markers are more than welcome to show up. If enough of us show, we can go out after the concert, and maybe y'all can get to know some of the woodwind section.

PM me if you want to come.
