Since majority, I was always just off the "end" sizes. I went through a lot of angst in my late teens over the fact that I could not have the latest style, unless I had it custom made. . . and if it went out of style (and some of them were really horrible) I was stuck with wearing it. A couple of tours in the Navy helped in that the contract shops had to get uniforms in my size.

Bsck in civilian life, I would have a "suite" made, two jackets, different but of complementary colours, two vests one of each and four trousers, two of each. This way I had effectivelly six or eight outfits. Expensive, you bet! But I wore them from 1968 through 1980 before I had to replace them. That is true economy. (or frugality if you please).

VALUE is the key. Seek and purchase VALUE.

Another way to save is to deal direct with your kiltmaker and avoid the extra cost and risks of miscommunication and lack of control of buying through a middleman.

Too many tales of woe on this board from using middlemen to order a date sensitive kilt. Never seen a post that a wedding, or other important date, was missed by dealing direct with the kiltmaker - whether hand sewn or machine sewn.
