Thanks for the "scrunch down sock" suggestion. I wore them that way & they did look a lot better.

My first day out was yesterday. It was to the Renfest (I know not correct wear for the period) but it helped me get over any thought of people staring at me.

I am in love with wearing a kilt now.

After the festival I had to run into a local Italian place to pick up some food to go. We live in a very small town & I wondered how the "locals" would react. I know there are a lot of Scottish descendants around NC but you never know.

As I was walking up to the restaurant through the glass front door & large front windows I could see all the cooks standing behind the counter, staring. I could see a couple of the patrons staring too. I figured I would be hearing some interesting comments once I walked in.

Much to my surprise as I opened the door, the cooks went back in the kitchen & all the male patrons avoided making eye contact with me.

The female patrons just looked at me, smiled & went back to eating.

The waitress at the counter asked me what I had ordered & went back in the kitchen to get it.

When she returned she said "I am sorry, but no one else will say anything. May I ask what the special occasion is?"

I responded "The only special thing is me being of Scottish descent"

She smiled & said "Well it looks great"

I walked out with a smile
