My new sgian dubh
I recently received a sgian I'd ordered from a knifemaker in Fredericksburg, Texas and wanted to get some feedback from forum members.
I was wanting something simple for day wear, but that was a functional blade, when I happened to meet a knifemaker while on a trip to Fredericksburg. Though he'd never made anything of this nature before, I provided a sketch of what I was after and he knocked it out.
The blade is ATS 34 stainless (Rockwell hardness 60-61), and the handle is a stabilized African Blackwood.
Here's a link the the knifemaker's site:http://www.lgknives.com/

A very nice, well made, functional blade. The balance and size look perfect for carry in your sock.
I believe you got exactly what you wanted, and I'd love to have a nice blade like that. The one I carry most is not nearly as well made, but it, too, has a thin handle that makes carry easy. Mine has a horn handle, and it hugs the leg well.

That's a nice looking, simple knife. I particularly like the full tang with scales and jimping on the blade back. Plus, ATS-34 is a good steel for small knives. The only thing I would want changed is to have a full hight grind but that's really more for aesthetics on such a small knife. Over all I really like it. That's just the type of sgian dubh I'd like to wear.

SHAUNMAXWELL Sgian Dubh
Your new sgian dubh sounds unique. Well done. I hope you are a Clan Maxwell member, perhaps we'll see you at the games the 25th or 26th this month in Richmond. My latest sgian dubh might not pass the test of authenticity...I'd like feedback. I picked it up at a Pow Wow in King William County, Native American made with a short black obsidian blade 2 3/4" and antler handle, overall length 5 1/2". I like the cultural meld. Here's hoping for good rather than appropriate weather. REVIRESCO!

Yes, it came with a sheath, which I neglected to photograph. I'll try to post a photo of it soon.
