Using a Lint Brush on a Kilt?
Should a wool kilt be brushed down with a velvet lint brush from time to time like a suit or sport jacket?
I also have textured silicone sticky rollers if a brush is too harsh.
Thanks.
* Note: As the answer, Barb T. suggests using the sticky roller on the wool kilts in her post, so I will be using the sticky rollers on wool from now on. Thanks Barb. *

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I have wondered about this myself and went with the rollers. I don't see why the brush would harm it but then I guess I got nervous.

I have one or two of those brushes and have to admit, I'd be nervous using that on some fabrics or garments like the kilt. The stuff that does the work seems a bit grabby, and I could see that being harsh over time.
While I'm not sure what one of the tape lint rollers would do over time, I think I'd probably use those. When I was in high school, a lot of my friends in junior ROTC (I think they call it?) would use the lint rollers on their uniforms. I could be wrong, but aren't their uniforms made out of wool? Same with my husband's suits... he uses lint rollers. The adhesive probably isn't strong enough to mess up the fibers as much, but I've had the brush practically refuse to move smoothly on some fabrics or even in some cases just had the feeling it might damage the fibers a little if I continued using it.
I could be completely wrong, of course. I haven't used one of these on a kilt (the ones we have are acrylic, anyway, and not wool), and it didn't even cross my mind to try it on them.

Hopefully, one of the kiltmakers will give us an answer.
The brush seems to go over the wool without getting caught or anything like that. I do use the brush on my cotton kilt and my suit jackets and so on.
I have six cats, so everything requires brushing or sticky rolling. I was using the adhesive sticky rollers for a while, but went through them too quickly. I got a couple of the silicone rollers because you just stick them in water and all the stuff falls off. They work all right, but the brush is easier in some cases like between the pleats.

That's cool to hear, then! I wasn't sure how it would work for you. I know there have been times where I've found the other way around was true for me. That the lint brush didn't get the fabric cleaned the way the lint roller did. I guess it just depends on the fabric and what's on there.

I've always used the sticky roller myself. I too am a little nervous pulling the other type over $450 worth of fine tartan.

I was in Naval Jr ROTC, we always referred to it as NJROTC, but the only thing that I remember being wool was perhaps the coats. That was back in 97~98.

I've actually used a vacuum cleaner on a few of my clothes (not my kilts) because we have lots of dust storms out here that bring in very, very fine dust. It's like having five or six dust bowls every year, and the dust just gets every where no matter how well you cover things up. I need some of those giant zip lock bags for my clothes.
