Phil, this is absolutely gorgeous !

    Do you have more ?

Anyone of the Rabble know if we have an "old photo" thread on Xmarks ?

    Best,

    Robert
    Cheers for that Rob,

Yes, i have another one or two, its sounds like dirty ole George picked up his bride (Annie) to be on the voyage out to our fair land. George built some of the first buildings in Invercargill (very bottom of south island NZ) and was a forming member of the caledonian and pipe band society down there. His picture was recently in the local rag, apparently the society still has the sporran and the brogues by the sound of it...

Anyway...I will run the pics through the scanner at work on monday and post them here.

    Regards

    Phil

My ancestry is Scots, Irish, English, Danish, Norwegian and Swiss. Sadly, my grandmother on my mother's side was orphaned so no information there except her given last name was Myers- perhaps German.

Of the Scottish ancestry I can trace it back through my great grandmother (mother's side) to Gallacher in Dumphries, Galloway (hear that P1M?), but they trace back to John Gallagher from Co. Donegal who immigrated to Scotland- further research deadends in Co. Donegal, so far.

On my father's side, my grandmother's ancestry goes back to Fitzalan of Arundel- to relatives from Bretagne- back to Scotland to Kenneth Mac Alpin and back to the kings and queens of the Dal Riata- then back to Ireland again- as much as I have been able to trace and if it is all to be believed.

As for my surname Mitchell- it seems to deadend in 1771 in Yorkshire, England with Eli Mitchell.

Not much time to pull out the genealogical papers, so from the top of my head my surnames are:

Holmes, Scobee/Scobie/Scoby, Moore/O'More, McReynolds/MacRanald, McIlstalker, Shepherd, Grant, Stewart, Dixon, West, Dickinson, Nave, Fultz, Schreckhise, Warner, Barrett, Haynes, Brown, Brooks, Rich, Boren, + many more that I can't recall without the records.

My ancestry is (primarily) Scottish, Scots-Irish, Irish, Cherokee, English; with some German, Austrian, Swiss, Dutch, & Norse thrown in for good measure

    re

Fathers side Nielson: Danish, German and a bit of Icelandic

Mothers side: maiden name Kingsbury I have extensive geneology on this mapped back clear to mid 1500s and it's a whole lot of English clear down the line on that side. Way way back there was a kingsbury that married someone with the maiden name kennedy so that's probably my only real celtic connection at all. Kennedy could be an irish or scottish name not sure.

I found an expert on the kingsbury line who wrote some books on the subject and just was able to give him my grandfathers name and he mapped this all out for me about 38 pages long. Amazing

I know only one thing absolutely for sure, that is, I am Matty Ross.

I can trace my Ross Line back to about 1741 to William Ross, the son of James Ross, who lived on Northwest Fork Hundred, Sussex County, Delaware. Also born in 1730 in New Castle Delaware was George Ross Who Signed the Declaration of Independence. No one has been able to connect our two Families.

My father’s mother’s side goes back to Jacques Raphael Findlay. The Son of James Findlay we know was born in Scotland. “Joco” as he was known was a trapper trader and Guide for the Northwest Fur trading company. He was noted as the guide who lead famed explorer David Thompson across the rocky Mountains and on to the Pacific ocean. Joco also established several Fur trading houses for the Northwest Company.

    Just for the fun of it;
Once upon a time, before I turned into Santa Claus, I had bright red Hair. The mark of a true Celt? Anyway, My Grand Father Rollo Roy Hallenbeck had red Hair. His Grand mother Hannah Brownell was also known to have been a “Fiery Red Head” Her Grand mother was Nancy Harris. We do know Nancy daughter of William Harris was born in Kirkcubright, Dumfries Shire, Scotland.
So Here I have traced My Red Hair 5 generations back to Scotland

    re

I had really red hair when I was born but it turned more of a blonde after a few years. While my brother was born with blonde hair that turned all the way dark.

I wonder if that kind of thing is common. We've got some pictures from way to back to prove it.
