This reminds me of an encounter my mother and I had with a wee lad at last year's Arizona Highland Games. We were waiting outside the outhouses, and the lad was dressed in a very nice kilt. I said, "That's a fantastic kilt you're wearing; what tartan is that?"
The lad looked at me, and then at the kilt, and pointed at the most prominent lines in the tartan. "Purple... and green...."
"Ah, the infamous purple and green tartan," my mother said. "I've often pondered getting a skirt in that, myself!"
