Flashes pleated to the sett

So I thought I would try making some flashes for my Isle of Sky kilt. I didn't have a lot of material left so I could only use the material that I cut out of the pleats above the hips. I wanted to bring out more of the purple in the flashes. The purple is quite muted in the kilt but gives it a hue that blends well with the other colors of the kilt.

I made the flashes pleated to the sett. Each half is a mirror image. What do you think?

Wally, the kilt looks great and the flashes look well done, but the (GLARE) white hose kind of wash out the flashes. Do you have some light blue hose? I think that would make the purple pop.

I think it looks great. I have some flashes that went with a kiltt I had that were to the sett too. I like the look.

Thanks SB. The kilt hose are actually cream. Must be something with the digital camara and lighting. Hose are another accessory I am in short supply. My next hose I plan on a lovat green. Then maybe some lovat blue... Christmas is so far away

Nice job. I did some with the scraps from my kilt, but cut on the bias, as I had enough fabric to do so. If not, I would have done about what you did. Nice job.

In terms of kilt hose, you might want to check out some of the sporting goods stores for Soccer hose, they look quite good and come in a wide range of colours. Best of all they are not nearly as expensive as kilt hose usually are.

I have three pairs of soccer socks from my previous interest in soccer. One white, one red, and one black. The white is a don't, the red is a don't, which leaves the black which I wear for day wear.

Just a fast photo note: when set at the factory automatic defaults, most digital cameras see something that's near a pure, neutral white and record it as neutral no matter what the actual color cast of the object is. This happens when the white balance is set to the Automatic (A) setting. Best to set the color balance to the daylight color temperature (5500K)and shoot outside. Fiddle with the settings and you'll get closer to the actual color that the eye perceives the object to be. Using the "Quick Fix" function in some image editing software does the same thing...tries to average everything out and shift it toward "neutral". Shooting fabric and getting it to appear in the photo the same colors and shades as it does to the human eye is a big challenge sometimes because of the way that different dyes react to different parts of the spectrum.

As automatic as these cameras are, you still have to learn when to switch it over to Manual Mode to get the photo.
