Just to be clear, these are not advertised as kilt hose. I'm not sure "thin" is the right way to describe them... more like a looser weave.
I'm not sure if it is the sun or weave of the stockings. They have a rougher texture than kilt hose, and it may very well be making contrasts with the lighting. As you said, I have Lewis hose on the way, and those hose will be my dress hose.
I can say for sure that someone with thick legs should not even consider these. They are good for my casual wear, and if show through a little, could probably be worn over thin, dark brown, socks as a back up. Not good to be stuck with one pair of socks...
It's still in the nineties during the day over here, so the looser weave is a little more comfortable than my kilt hose.
