Ted, it's a beautiful tie! Very rich-looking.
I've been surprised at how many of the older (1940s and earlier) photos show folks dressed in, well I would almost say an embarrassment of patterns and textures, based on our modern tastes. You might find two or even three tartans plus a tweed and two different furs on the same fellow...but it works great! Gives the wearer a dash of...mm, dare a say..panache?
I think having enough variety made it clear the wearer had not simply erred in choosing his tie that morning, but that his was a confident, bold yet careless, style--a calculated clash as it were.
Now I am not sure what tartan is best suited for this tie but I am sure you will find the perfect one. Fitting for the Lord of East Mesa. Good find!
