I am surprised to hear that. Reimbursement for voting is illegal here and several other places that I know of.

I voted last night after getting home from work. The polling place was at the local methodist church and there was no line at all. I brought my son along for his first civics lesson. At 10 months old, he's getting an early start. I think the highlight of his lesson was getting an "I voted" sticker stuck to his hat.

I voted in a kilt at my kitchen table a couple weeks ago. Funny, there's no "I Voted" sticker in there - feeling jipped.

I voted too! A bit frustrating standing in line waiting for a booth when I saw a woman go in (ours are open) and proceed to take out her Sample Ballot book THEN start reading the Propositions etc. aparrently for the first time! I finally got a booth, voted- I had pre marked my book- and left. She was STILL hogging her booth reading!

I got my ballot and took my time reading everything at home and making up my mind slowly and deliberately. Then Yesterday I met my wife at the drop off point for mail ballots at the clerk's office and we dropped our ballots together. We got stickers!

Or she could have been like me. I always took my time in a voting booth and took my blue book with me.

On a related note to voting in general, my wife got to vote this election for the first time in almost a decade. Her ex-husband was unbalanced and wouldn't let her. (Long story, no need to get too far into it.) And after she left him she stayed off of the voting rolls because they are public record. This year, she finally had the confidence that he wasn't going to come after her and registered and voted. It was really nice to see her reclaim her power like that.

I fell into bed at about 04:30, just after the required 270 was clocked up.

My grandmother was a suffragist, so I always go and vote, for fear of her coming back to haunt me if I don't.

Usually voting here consists of placing a single X in the appropriate box, at least for general elections. There are times when you get to do several Xs for electing the local government.

Amazingly there are 'spoilt ballots' at every election due to people getting it wrong.

Voting in the US sounds a bit alarming - do many voters fall into the machinery and jam the cogs?

I hope that the election night is the most startling event of this next presidential term of office and that it proceeds with a certain amount of rather boring efficiency towards restoring economic stability, financial security and diplomatic equanimity.
