Advice for a PC jacket
I'm looking for a Prince Charlie jacket. Since I live in Norway there's no such luxury that I can avoid ordering from UK/US. I have been looking around in differend places on the internet and found a lot of jackets. Most of them looks alike, but the price goes from £99 and up to £380. Any advice what to look for? And second; what is the difference between the cheap and the expencive jackets really?
If I had a job it would'nt be a problem, but since I'm a student I have to make it fit into my budget.

Here is my review of the Prince Charlie I picked up a year ago, I have since picked up a Montrose Doublet, which I prefer for formal wear. However the Prince Charlie has worked admirably.

Nice reading. I still can't find any information about the differences between the one you got and the more expencive ones (f.ex. from Scotweb or mytartan [that has a sale now]).
If it's that big difference in price I could maybe live with supporting a dodgy company. Unless you have another opinion?

I have been able to pick up spme formal/semiformal wear as ex-rentals from local tartan shops, if you have any near you this might be a way to go.

Guess I could try some 2'nd hand stores, since there's no kilt hire or kiltshops here in norway. Would prefer a new one, since it's nice to have a splendid jacket that I can take good care of for many years to come.
I could always save up and buy an expensive jacket, but then again: Is it really worth it?

I happen to think quality is always worth it.

I happen to agree, and am now mulling over the same problem as Snowbear, however I'm in the states. So the question comes down to (minor price difference aside)
the MyTartan PC
or
The J.Higgins PC
Any opinions on which is better constructed? I did a search and the J.Higgins has truly mixed reviews, some saying they are great, others that they don't last.

I don't have a PC from J. Higgins, but rather a Braemer, which is an Argyle with the PC cuffs and silver buttons. Mine seems to be well made, at least as well as the off the peg jackets one finds in a mid-range haberdashery. So far no problems other than a button losing its shank. Higgins replace it promptly at no charge.
I cannot speak of the other company, as I have had no experience with them.

I've bit the bullet and ordered a PC from J.Higgins. I'll report back on fit and finish once it's received.
As an aside, I spoke with Rob (?) there, and he suggested sizing up one, so I got the 46L instead of the 44L. We will see if this was the right choice.
