Isn't the STA going to be phased out as the Scottish government takes over the tartan registry?

As I understand things, there will be changes - possibly some form of amalgamation - but the STA (whether or not it retains the name) will continue. I hope it does as I have a lifetime membership, which had to be paid for!!
Take care,
Ham.

As SteveB said, the directory server was probably down. Works fine now.

This weekend I have been constantly trying to get onto the Scottish Tartans Authority website ( www.tartansauthority.com) to do some research, but without luck - it is almost as if it does not exist!
Has anyone else experienced this? I was happily using it only four days ago and have never before had problems.
Take care,
Ham.
Ham,
I have just tried it, and it seems to be working fine now.
Best Regards,
Rob

Hamish,
Lifetime memberships are like lifetime warranties, only for the life of the member of the item, which ever is shorter.
I used to belong to a professional organization that suddenly started pushing us to sign up for life memberships. . . . . I didn't, (didn't have the cash at the time). By the end of the year they were bankrupt!
Any life memberships I buy now, I consider a gift. (At my age it isn't wise even to buy green bananas)
I am not suggesting that the STA will do that. Just giving my own experience.

As a member of STA, I will vouch for the organization. Brian Wilton and other STA members, including our own Matt Newsome, are doing much to preserve the history and traditions of tartan, as well as debunking the many myths out there as well.

Todd

They do a fine job, too, despite the roughness of the row they hoe.
