Dunderave Castle
Alan H. ask you you shall receive
Dunderave Castle, Loch Fyne, Argyll Late 16th century tower house built for MacNaughton family. Restored 1911/12 by Robert Lorimer. Dunderave is The Castle of Doom of Neil Munro's novel of the same name,
Dunderave stands on a silver rock now unhappily sandwiched between the main road round Loch Fyne and the loch itself. It was built as an L-shaped tower house by Iain, Chief of the MacNaughton's, in 1596. About 1700 the MacNaughton married a daughter of Campbell of Ardkinglas but then, changing his mind, absconded to Ireland with her sister, The property was thus forfeited to the Campbells. However the present clan seat is in Ireland where a new castle was built and it was called Dunderave, probably out of affection for it's Loch Fyne forbear
As some may have guessed, I am a keen amatuer photographer, so if you have any requests, lets keep it to Argyll, I will happily oblige
Chris

Dunderave Castle
Great picture. Where is it located as Argyll is a relatively large area. Ancestors were from Kilmartin area and a mixture of clans.
