I have read this entire thread with some interest. I too have stirred up some controversy over the upcoming holiday with my family, not over dress, but over Scooby's attendance on grandparents. My wife and I have not lived together for some time, but have still spent holidays together so we could both enjoy our son's company.

My cousins are hosting dinner this year and many of Scooby's cousins(second I guess really) will be attending. I have tried very hard in the years since my aunt's death to keep my son in touch with those other members of his generation and informed his mother and grandmama that he would be spending the holiday with my family this year. Grandmama is not pleased and mama is in the middle, which I feel bad about, but I've bent over backwards to make other people's holiday plans work, this one holiday is mine.

Both families have seen me kilted on occasion, I haven't decided whether I will be on Thanksgiving or not. No one will bat an eye either way, we're all a bit "out of the ordinary."

CC, I hope this works out for you; I would have trouble choosing not to be with some family for any holiday, but absent a current wife, my son's interests override for me.

I have to say, you took a decision that I'm not sure I would have taken. But then you did bring up with your mum the issue I would have focussed on: why she was making promises to other people for you.

I have issues with my family about being kilted, which hurts. My immediate family, no less. Relatives further away have no problem, and what friends have seen my kilted are curious, but also do not pass judgement.

A responsible and adult decision, but this is a decision that you have made, not one that someone has made for you and that is the point of this thread.

Well all just got back from dinner. Mom was mad the second she saw me, and said " I thought I told you to wear pants today", to which I said "Well that just would not be me, would it?". Upon arrival at the resturant my mom said somthing to my brother, and he gave me a dirty look. However I recived many a positive comment form others dinning there, including form one of my brother's co-workers. Here are some pics.

Well, I just ran across this thread, and it has been a doozy. I have always been the black sheep and done my own thing anyhow, so I am used to the family just shaking their heads at me.

Also don't see what your mom has anything to complain about. With all the compliments you now have it is good reason to dress as you have when with your family.
