ThistleDown, are you looking to adopt? I'm a good cook, and Bob is handy to have around. . . That is just a lovely house!

One of my sisters and her husband moved into the Santa Ynez Valley (long known for Solvang and later, unfortunately, Michael Jackson's "NeverLand") as first-year teachers. They rented a small place with the mailing address "The Little Ranch House, 40 Acre Farm, Solvang CA" or something to that effect. Not sure if it's still there or if the wind has finally blown it down That would have been in late 1970s. . .

And another sister and her husband built in the Sierra foothills east of Chico CA, named their place Windridge although it has a street number and name for USPS. Was looking for a pic of their view over Central Valley, but best I can come up with is the flock of wild turkeys that wander through the front yard several times a day

The village of Carmel-by-the-Sea on the Monterey Peninsula in California has long had names instead of addresses. Many of the houses on Seventeen Mile Drive do as well.

No shortage of those nuisances. But bro-in-law insists on feeding the smaller wildlife (foxes, feral cats, etc.) so I just laugh when he complains about the bears. This was just a little fellow but Jim has had them rip the door off the shed where birdseed was stored. . . no, I didn't pixelate his face to protect his ID, just my level of wildlife photography

My former pipe instructor has a ranch in Texas that he named, Lilliput Acres. I suppose he thought land of 8 acres was small.

cajunscot, that's very interesting. I never thought of naming something as small as a tent, but if you're going to be there a while it sounds like a good way to make it feel like home.

Oh, and I'm with Derek Conley. We live in a tiny mother-in-law house behind another house with one bedroom and an ensuite bathroom with no sink (gotta use the one in the kitchen). I'm enjoying seeing these gorgeous homes!

Actually, it does happen here in the States quite a bit, just not formally. If you go out into the rural regions, many places are still known as "The Johnson House" or "The Hendricks Place" or some other similar appellation. And the locals will know these designation without knowing the official address.

Often these places will carry this name for a while, even if another family moves in. The name just changes to "The Old Johnson House." For example, you would have the Smith family that lives in the Old Johson house.

There's a town in Tasmania called Doo Town. Its only a small village, but most of the houses are named with some variation of Doo:
