I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I don't think the overall effect would be much different than any other dark green based kilt, such as a Black Watch. As long all of the leathers are black it would look nice in my opinion. What color shirt/hose would you pair it with? You could consider the black (or grey) a neutral, and work the rest of outfit around the green.

The image on SWK's website pairs the green kilt with black leathers.

Thanks Ivy. I guess the shirt would be either light blue or white. I'm thinking about the green shadow tartan because I have read that it's patern shows better than the black shadow's. I'm not sure which color of hose I would use yet.

I personally think black hose, red flashed, black or brown leather sporran, and a white shirt would be a great look! I may have to give some thought to that myself...

Well, Nighthawk, it seems to be stuck in my mind that way, and I do see the black hose and red flashes; green flashes could work too. I have a very dark gray jacket and waistcoat waiting to be converted... But I could also look around for a black jacket; maybe even an Eton with a shawl lapell and rigged up with a chain closure... Kind of give things an Irish twist.

It is, after all, a wool, eight yard kilt, And workable...

That kilt comes with matching flashes, so you're set! I think a dark grey jacket would be great, but black would be equally nice.

Well... Guess I'll look into scrounging one up. It will probably be January or Feburary. I'll need to get hose too.

    Thanks for the help.

Up until a month or so ago, I would have agreed with you on the green flashes, and red would never have cossed my mind- and then I saw Riverkilt in his Antarctica tartan kilt, wearing it with red hose. The kilt was all cool colors- whites and blues and greys- and then there were the hot red socks. It worked so well together, and was something I never would have thought of. So I thought that you could achieve a similar effect with the red flashes- that one splash of extra color! Of course, like I said, green would look excellent too- it's just a slightly different way of thinking about things. Until I saw Ron in that picture, I was all about matching flases to kilt.

I understand, Nighthawk. We're both artists, and both know that red and green complement each other well, as do gray and red. Sometimes, though, it is better to be on the bland rather than flashy side. All depends on what the desired effect is.

The red will tie into your red hair and balance the top and bottom.
