Back trouble has kept me from attempting Scottish athletics, so I can sympathize, if not fully understand. The way I see it, you tried it and enjoyed it, and you still have sailing and music and probably other things we don't know about.
Take care of the back and nervous system, Alan. You'll be living with them for a while.

Best of luck to you Alan--was hoping that I might run into you out on the field someday. Who knows--still might ;-) Sail on shipmate, sail on. Slicing through dark water, sun on your back. Damn I'm STILL envious!

Alan,
I just got to this thread.
I wish you all the best.
Perhaps now is the time to become a coach, so you dont loose contact with the "terrain".
Take care,
Robert

Well our long-set-up stones clinic with Rusty Price, North American Champion was today. It went well, and I threw a bit, staying with the lighter stones and knocking off a bit early. NO 26 lb Braemer stone for me. I did a 2-3 28 lb WFD throws and hoisted the caber 2x and that was enough for the day.
I'm now, five hours after we stopped... a bit uncomfortable but not miserable. We shall see how it goes in the morning. Whatever the case, I'm not throwing any more for at least 8 weeks, this was the last bit. I'd not have done this but the opportunity was too good to pass up. BTW two of my 28 lb WFD throws were 43-footers...would have been PR's in competition.

Alan best wishes with what ever you decide, your input and advice has been invaluable here to me and others. If it is truly time to stop throwing maybe the coaching door will be opened.

Two full days of no aches, no "funny sensations" in really bad places and so on.
I ain't holding my breath, but it's good to not hurt after non-stop weirdness and aches and pains for 6 weeks.
